Glengarry Bhoys: Fiddler in a Kilt

I spent a chunk of this weekend at the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, principally on the trail of the Glengarry Bhoys, a wonderful high-energy Celtic Folk/Rock band. The best discovery of the weekend, other than a delightful band by the name of Pogey, was the new fiddle player for Glengarry Bhoys. His name is Darcy. He hails from Ireland. He wears a kilt. He fiddles. He spins. He steals the show. Also, he is a dead ringer for this guy.

Seriously, I heard some great live music this weekend and I encourage anyone who reads this blog to visit these websites and give a listen to these great Canadian independent Bands. Pogey has a myspace page where you can hear their music. I highly recommend the song Johnny's Bottle. The Glengarry Bhoys also have a myspace page, and they offer samples of more songs at their own website.

No! You don't understand! This plant CANNOT be dead!!!

I second the motion - Pogey was surprisingly good, and apparently have quite a following up in the Nova Scotia (vacation trip, anyone?) pub scene. Excellent interaction with the crowd, great energy, good tunes - it was a pleasure. Glengarry Bhoys never cease to impress and astound, with tunes unrecorded and a general vigor and accessibility both on stage and off. They posed in a picture with me!! I nearly swooned! And no, it will not be posted, Sam-I-Am.
